MODULE “UNIVERSITY AUTONOMY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DEMOCRATIC VALUES IN HIGHER EDUCATION: THE EXPERIENCE OF THE EU MEMBER STATES FOR UKRAINE №101098702 — UADDVHE — ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH-UA-IBA

  • For whom?
    The target group is graduate students of all years of study in various scientific specialties, future university professors who will bring knowledge of European democratic values and university autonomy to the student environment. The scientific youth – the future young teachers of the university – will become agents of qualitative change and will promote the establishment of the principles of democracy in the academic community.
  • For what?

    Implementation of the educational module “University Autonomy in the Development of Democratic Values in Higher Education: Experience of EU Member States for Ukraine” in the educational process for graduate students of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University will positively affect their theoretical and practical training in democracy and democratic values in united Europe. Policies and practices of expanding autonomy in four areas of university activities (organizational, financial, stuffing, academic). The module will promote the development of democratic values in all participants in the educational process, understanding the importance of expanding university autonomy for the development of social responsibility of universities, improving them.

    Postgraduate students will gain theoretical knowledge and key skills that meet the demand and labor market; contribute to their professional activities and research. Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University as the capital’s university, will have the opportunity to focus on the EU’s experience in introducing and expanding university autonomy and implementing its best practices. Implementation of the educational module and e-course “University Autonomy in the Development of Democratic Values in Higher Education: Experience of EU Member States for Ukraine” to prepare PhDs at other universities in Kyiv and Ukraine will promote democracy in Ukraine, modernize the Ukrainian higher education system in line with European trends, which will summarize the experience of EU Member States on university autonomy and the development of democratic values, аvailable for students and educators in the EU and worldwide to contribute to the varieties of programme contexts for PhD.

    Promoting the best examples of policies and practices of expanding university autonomy in the EU countries among the general public, the development of democratic values among all citizens of Ukraine. Involvement of the university in European cooperation, exchange of ideas and best practices with international colleagues. Initiation of national and institutional policy and practice of university management, expansion of organizational, financial, academic and personnel autonomy of higher education institutions; development of social responsibility of universities. The integration of Ukrainian higher education into the European Higher Education Area, as well as the development of democratic values among Ukrainian citizens, can be decisive factors in Ukraine’s accession to a united Europe. Module Results reflecting the finding summary about the current state of play of university autonomy in the EU and Ukraine to contribute to the development of policies for promoting university autonomy for European scale.

  • Duration

    The Module is designed for 180 hours (3 years), of which: lectures – 60 hours, seminars – 60 hours, trainings – 44 hours, intensives – 16 hours.

  • Expected results

    1. Improving the level of knowledge of future doctors of philosophy (PhD) on university autonomy in the EU.
    2. Generalization of a comparative study of the experience of the EU Member States on issues of university autonomy.
    3. Mastering by future doctors of philosophy (PhD) the principles, policies and practices of the four components of university autonomy: academic, financial, organizational and stuffing.
    4. Implementation of e-course “University autonomy in the development of democratic values in higher education: the experience of the EU Member States for Ukraine”.
